Biographie de U2
U2 est un groupe de rock formé en 1976 à Dublin, Irlande.
Le groupe s'est formé à Dublin le 25 Septembre 1976. Larry Mullen, Jr., un élève de 14 ans publie une note sur le tableau d'affichage de l'école à la recherche de musiciens pour une nouvelle bande. Six élèves y répondent. Installés dans sa cuisine, Larry était à la batterie, Paul Hewson (Bono) au chant, David Evans (The Edge) et son frère aîné Dik Evans aux guitares, Adam Clayton, un ami des frères Evans à la basse, et initialement Ivan McCormick et Peter Martin, deux autres amis de Larry. Peu de temps après, le groupe se met en place sous le nom 'Feedback' parce qu'il était l'un des rares termes techniques qu'ils connaissaient. Peter et Ivan quittèrent le groupe durant les semaines qui suivirent. En Mars 1977, le groupe change de nom pour The Hype. Dik quitta le groupe juste après et celui-ci change alors de nom pour 'U2'. Le groupe est finalement composé de Bono (de son vrai nom Paul Hewson, né le 10 mai 1960 à Dublin, chant), The Edge (de son vrai nom David Evans, né le 8 août 1961 à Barking, Angleterre, guitare-piano-chant), Adam Clayton (né le 13 mars 1960 à Chinnor, Angleterre, basse) et Larry Mullen Junior (né le 31 octobre 1961 à Dublin, batterie). Le jour de la Saint Patrick en 1978, U2 a remporté un concours de jeunes talents à Limerick. Le prix consistait en 500 £ et à l'enregistrement d'une démo qui sera entendu par le label CBS Ireland. Island Records signa U2 en mars 1980.
Leur premier album 'Boy' est sorti en 1980.
Depuis les années 1980, U2 s'est imposé comme un groupe majeur sur la scène mondiale.
