(1) Le Mayflower (ou Fleur de Mai) était un vaisseau marchand du 17e siècle, qui transporta les premiers colons anglais aux États-Unis.

(2) Capitaine Arab fait référence au capitaine Achab (Ahab en anglais), personnage de Moby Dick obsédé par la baleine blanche du même nom.

(3) Traduction incertaine, due au fait que je ne comprend pas vraiment le sens de cette phrase ici (à part pour la rime)...

(4) William Kidd, ou Capitaine Kidd, était un marin anglais du 17e siècle, qui s'est converti dans la piraterie, puis a été arrêté et condamné à mort. La légende raconte que son trésor est toujours caché quelque part, et ceci à inspiré de nombreux écrivains (dont Edgar Allan Poe).

(5) Ces navires sont les trois navires de Christophe Colomb (comme on le comprend plus loin) : la Pinta, La Niña, et la Santa Maria.
