"God is a woman" est le deuxième single du quatrième album studio d'Ariana, Sweetener. La chanson est une sorte d'hymne féministe et sexuelle, portant sur le fait que les femmes pourraient tout autant dominer comme un dieu, que les hommes. La chanson a été référencé dans le clip de "no tears left to cry", et a été de nouveau évoquée dans la vidéo Behind the Scenes pt.ll. La chanson est une suite au 2 premiers singles d'Ariana qui sont "no tears left to cry" et "the light is coming".

Dans son interview avec Time Magazine, la chanson a été décrite comme «un tube anthémique et sensuelle» et dans celle avec Jimmy Fallon, Ari a avoué que la chanson est la préféré de sa grand-mère de son dernier album.

La chanson aurait du sortir le 20 juillet mais Grande nous a surpris un 12 Juillet avec le clip et le lyrics video qui vient avec.

L'un des modèles les plus percutants d'Ariana, Madonna, fait également une apparition dans le clip vidéo en récitant une célèbre citation Pulp Fiction qui est une interprétation de la Bible verset 25:17 du Livre d'Ezéchiel. Grande fait également un coup d'oeil à l'icône pop en portant le fameux "Cone Bra" du "Blond Ambition World Tour".
